T-mobile will have Nano –SIM cards in October and give unlocked iPhone 5 owners a chance to get into the T-Mobile network. According to the Verge, a leading report, they talked with T-Mobile to make sure that this news was on the up and up. This was done after a tweet went out this week from a T-Mobile rep stating that these cards would be available in October.
On September 12, 2012, T-Mobile started a campaigned called Unlocked and Unlimited. This campaign means that T-Mobile will carry unlocked iPhone at its locations, air national advertisements to invite new owners of iPhone 5 to join the network and release a few of their own iPhone apps.
The purpose is to hone in on the market of older iPhone that are going to be plentiful as a result of the release of Apple’s new iPhone 5. T-Mobile is already set up to provide SIM cards for older iPhone.
According to Harry Thomas, the Director of Marketing at T-Mobile, anyone who gets a new iPhone will have to do something with their old phone.
The best scenario for T-Mobile would be for new iPhone 5 users to join their network too. However, there are a few roadblocks that will stop this from happening. First, it is not all that easy to unlock a phone. Second, it is very costly to purchase a phone that has already been unlocked. This costs about $649 to do in the United States. Third, a majority of iPhone users will have to settle for 2G because the iPhone does not work with the 3G network that T-Mobile has. But then again, you might be able to get around this if you live in Vegas, DC, New York or Seattle because T-Mobile has a 4G-HSPA network in these locations.
When asked about the speed connection that the iPhone will have on T-Mobile’s network, T-Mobile’s Director of Marketing would not comment. However, he did say that if it was a 4G network that the connection speed will be around seventy percent better than AT&T.
Though if you are thinking about changing over, there are still other factors that you should consider first. However, there are still some die hard iPhone users who will make the change. T-Mobile thinks that it has more affordable plans that will appeal to users, such as its plan that offers no strings unlimited data option.
Oh, if you’re wondering why T-Mobile is proving unlocked and unlimited for iPhone 5 it’s because Apple decided to not make the iPhone 5 available to T-Mobile networks and users. Do you think it’s unfair?
