4G LTE Network Expansion for Sprint, Verizon, AT&T in Light of iPhone 5 and iOS6 Release

Sprint wants to add additional iPhone 5 users to its network by announcing an upgrade to its 4G LTE network. Spring wireless has launched 4G LTE in 5 additional markets early this week in the eve of Apple’s fastest selling iPhone 5 and the release of iOS 6. That brings Sprint to a total of 24 cities with 4G LTE networks. The new 4G LTE coverages are: Wichita, Topeka and Lawrence Kansas; Waukegan-Lake County, Illinois and Barnstable-Hyannis  and Mid-Cap, Massachusetts.

Why they have chosen these markets is left to our imagination. Sprint has recently announced that its 4G LTE network will be expanded to more than 100 markets in the next few months. Those markets are yet to be named. If you have an iPhone, Samsung Galaxy S series or any smartphone, this is very good news for you. This is specially good news for iPhone 5 owners.

Spring is a distant three behind #1 Verizon Wireless and #2 AT&T in 4G LTE coverages in the United States. However, they almost have the entire 3G network covered with LTE and should be fully covered by next year according to some sources.

Verizon 4G LTE Network Expansion

Verizon is also expanding its already robust network to 178 locations by adding 13 cities last week and another 20 cities schedule for 4G LTE end of the month. A Verizon executive said “In real-world, fully loaded network environments, 4G LTE users should experience average data rates of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink.” if this is the case Verizon should leave AT&T’s shady 4G LTE networks in the dust!
